How to Develop and Sell Custom Aromatherapy Products
Creating custom aromatherapy products is one of the most effective ways to increase revenue as a holistic wellness professional, while helping clients maintain progress between sessions. This is how JennScents started in 2002, as one of the very first custom blending bars in the U.S., and continues today as a leader in the industry. We now teach others through mentored education and business consulting to do the same.
There are 6 main TOOLS you need to have on your belt to make this work.
- Education
- Business Vision, Mission, and Plan (with operation systems)
- Supplies to develop & sell your desired products
- Branding & Marketing Strategy
- Outreach & Nurturing
- Professional Mindset with Personal Development
Holistic Aromatherapy Education
Let’s face it, there is a ton of information overload out there. When I started, there was hardly any. Now, everyone has something to say and something to share. So, who do you trust? Who do you follow? Who do you partner with?
That is extremely important, and the latter is most vital. Anyone you learn from should be a partner in helping you succeed.
I take mentorship seriously. That is how I not only started my business (with the most amazing business mentors), but I continue to surround myself and learn from business mentors to keep me growing forward.
Mentorship has been a part of our education from the very beginning when we got started in 2002. You learn…you teach…you help others help others.
Throughout our classes and certification programs, we give you firsthand experience and education with real-life practical situations and health challenges, so you know what to do when you need to do it. Coupled with direct mentorship with Jennifer Pressimone, a world-renowned Clinical Aromatherapist and entrepreneur, resources, forms, and charts you need to put your practice into motion right away.
Education is great. However, without the skills to employ that education, you don’t go anywhere.
Business Vision, Mission, and Plan (with operation systems)
Time to DREAM!!!!
What do you want?
Who do you want to help?
How do you want to feel doing what you love, helping those you love?
Envision what that looks like. What does it feel like? How do your customers and clients feel after getting help from using your products?
Define your Mission Statement: Here are 3 examples:
- Empowering [who?] to [feel what], to [deliver a promise] – Empowering women to feel confident to start a new job.
- To bring [feeling adjective] to every [who] – To bring peace and calm to every entrepreneur.
- Making [what you provide] {action} for [who] – Making self-care easy, quick, and easy for corporate executives.
Now it’s time to map it out with a business plan.
- Define your business goals.
- Describe your business operations, marketing strategy, and financial goals.
- Business management.
Supplies to Develop Custom Aromatherapy Products to Sell
Here’s how you can get started:
1. Identify Your Client Needs:
- Ask your clients questions like: “What do you struggle with most—stress, focus, or sleep?”
- Create blends that solve their specific pain points – physically and emotionally.
2. Start with These Core Products:
- Roll-Ons: Easy-to-use blends for on-the-go stress relief or energy boosts.
- Room Sprays: Create calming environments with essential oil sprays.
- Diffuser Blends or Nasal Inhalers: Oils that clients can use at home to extend the benefits of your sessions.
3. Package and Brand Your Products:
- Create labels and packaging that reflect your wellness brand.
- Offer bundled packages like “Stress Relief Kits” or “Focus & Clarity Blends.”
4. Educate Clients on Product Benefits:
- Explain the science behind each blend and how it supports their goals.
- Example: “This blend of lavender and bergamot is proven to reduce stress and calm the nervous system.”
Business Tip: Include a small sample of a custom blend during sessions. Clients will experience the benefits firsthand and want to purchase their own.
Branding & Marketing Strategy
What do you want your brand to represent? What do you want your clients and customers to feel when they think of your brand?
Define our brand by listing 3-5 adjectives that best describe your brand. For example, holistic, serene, professional, innovative, etc.
How will you market yourself? Social media, paid ads, podcasts, and local guest speakers?
Outreach & Nurturing
How will you reach out to potential clients to inform them of your custom blend products?
How will you continue nurturing your clients and customers going forward to help them maintain their great results?
